Pécs is ready for the arrival of the competitors

11th World University Wrestling Championship, Pécs, 2014. 07. 07. – 12. 07.

The organizers held the final rehearsals today in the sports hall, while in the warm-up zone lots of wrestlers were training. Some participants have already finished with the medical examination and weigh-in, and the organizers told some words about the preparations of the championship in a press conference.

First of all, let’s specify the number of participants: Egypt and Sierra Leone arranged their visa a little late, so they had to stand off the championship. On Monday morning, there were 25 nations on the accreditation list. So there will be 280 University students wrestling on the mat in Pécs.  1_10 (4)

Tamás Téczely, the secretary of the Organising Committee told that the representatives of the FISU CIC, the Hungarian University Sports Federation and the Hungarian Wrestling Federation found everything OK. On Monday afternoon, the first steps of the competition have officially started with the weigh-in and the technical conference.

In the press conference, the representative of the FISU, Cseng Fave Seetow greeted the journalists, then Prof. Dr. Ádám Kiss, president of the Hungarian University Sports Federation and Dr. Csaba Hegedüs, president of the Hungarian Wrestling Federation said some words about the upcoming world championship hosted in Pécs. Csaba Nagy, deputy mayor of Pécs greeted the participants and fans in the name of the City of Pécs. The two-time Olympic Champion, Attila Vári, chief executive officer of Pécsi Sport Nonprofit Zrt. also welcomed the participants in the name of the Lauber Dezső Sports Hall. Zsolt Németh, wrestler of University Pécs competing in 59 kg promised that all wrestlers will do their best in Pécs. Dr. Gyula Zeller, vice-rector of the University of Pécs closed the greetings, he summarized the work of the Organising Committee. Last, but not least, Tamás Téczely, secretary of the OC said some useful words about this week’s program.
